November Favorites

I’ve got to be honest here, babes. I don’t have many favorites for November. I didn’t try many new products, and the few I did, did not blow me away.

No matter. Here are the golden few that made the list:

Beauty Faves

O!Mega Lash Volumizing Mascara from Marc Jacobs Beauty

While purchasing a refill of an old favorite foundation at Sephora, I had asked for a sample of a Buxom mascara. When I arrived home and was putting away my purchases, I found I had received a Marc Jacobs mascara sample instead of the Buxom one. Initially, I was upset at the mix up. Now, I’m very over it as the Marc Jacobs mascara is a new favorite. It feels non-existent on my lashes, and gives a nice full look with minimal product.

Fashion Faves

Down Jacket from H&M

Purchased during H&M’s outerware sale, this coat was a fantastic buy! I wanted a second down jacket with a little more style and glam than my current down jacket that is just solid black with no adornments. I also wanted a longer jacket with a hood, for a warmer option. I found all I wanted in this down jacket. The dark green color is rich and interesting, but still neutral; the gold hardware looks luxe; and the faux fur trimmed hood (which is removable from the hood, as is the hood from the coat) and faux fur lined collar are so soft and snuggly. Overall it’s my perfect winter jacket.

Food Faves

Walnuts

When I was a kid, my parents used to keep a bowl of unshelled walnuts on the bar. Cracking the nuts open, and carefully extracting the goods, was so fun for me! So when I saw a bag of walnuts at the grocery store this past month, I immediately tossed it in the cart. I set out a bowl of unshelled walnuts in my home, and proceeded to eat nearly the entire bag on my own. It is still as fun to crack open those shells as it was when I was a little babe.

Home Faves

Maxi-Matic Elite Platinum 1.7-Liter Glass Cordless Electric Kettle from Fred Meyer

As you may know, this babe likes her tea! My boo and I made the decision to chuck our old kettle for an electric one and what a decision that was! It brings your water to a boil quickly and without that eardrum-crushing whistle. The model we selected has a blue light that turns on when you start the kettle and shuts off, as does the machine, when the water comes to a full boil. This beauty has made making tea more accessible for my boo and I, and I recommend anyone who boils water on the reg look into an electric kettle.

Personal Faves

Grace’s Guide by Grace Helbig

Grace’s Guide: The Art of Pretending to Be a Grown-Up is a comedic handbook for Millennials needing a bit of guidance in the real and digital world. I’ve been a fan of Grace Helbig’s YouTube channel for a while now, so when this book launched, I was all over it! Grace’s Guide is as funny and charming as I had hoped it would be. Even if you’ve never seen Grace’s videos, (which you should really check out) you can still enjoy this book.

Seasonal Faves

My trip to Minneapolis, Minnesota

For Thanksgiving this year, my boo and I flew out to Minneapolis, MN to welcome his newborn niece, and to visit with the rest of the family as well. They are all spread out between 3 states, so whenever we can all converge for a visit it’s really lovely. It was also great, for me, to check out a new city and state. Even at the same temperature, Minneapolis felt much colder than Anchorage, so I was happy to get back home to the more mild cold. It’s always so good to spend time with my boo’s family, even if it’s freezing out.

Thanksgiving Menu

Slang on your apron & wash up, because it’s time to make your Thanksgiving feast!

I’m spending this Thanksgiving with my boo’s family in Minnesota, so I won’t be making my own menu this year. If I were cooking, this is the menu I’d be making.

Starters & Beverages

Cheese Plate- One hard cheese, one soft cheese, & one cheese you haven’t tried before; two types of crackers (I like plain water crackers & something with a lot of seeds); some dried fruit & assorted nuts.

Wine (a Riesling would be lovely), cider (non-alcoholic & boozy), good beers, & assorted sodas. And don’t forget to set out a pitcher of water!

Sides

Herb Stuffing

Mashed Potatoes

Sweet Potato Casserole

Peas- My mom always makes peas, so I make peas. I sautée some fresh thyme in butter then toss in (defrosted) frozen peas. Let it all get hot & friendly and boom veg done.

Cranberry Sauce- There are two types of people in this world, those who like home-made cranberry sauce & those who like the canned stuff. I’m one of the latter group. This babe loves cracking open a can & squeezing the jelly out onto a plate. Deal with it! If you’re one of the former people, bring 2 cup sugar, 2 cups water, & 4 cups cranberries to a boil. Let them go until the crans pop, turn off the heat and let the sauce cool before serving.

Biscuits- Again, I go the pre-made route for biscuits. There’s nothing like the rush of popping open a can of Pilsburry with a spoon. Here’s a good looking biscuit recipe if you’d like to DIY.

The Bird

Simple Roast Turkey– You can do it!

Dessert

Bourbon Pecan Pie

Classic Pumpkin Pie

October Favorites

October was a pamper heavy month for me. I bought a plush new bath robe, and took an excessive number of baths. I think it was the crisp air that made me constantly want to have a warm soak.

Halloween was also a large theme in October (obvi) as you’ll see in the rest of this favorites post.

Beauty Faves

Wizard Bubble Bar from LUSH

It’s no secret I love LUSH, and as you read above I also love baths. In my spirited, October-long Halloween celebration, I purchased all the LUSH Halloween products, and this little guy was my fave! Crumpled under running bath water, this bubble bar produced mystical amounts of beautifully scented bubbles creating the perfect bubble bath.

Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner from LUSH

After purchasing the Halloween products, I returned to LUSH once more in search of a way to have all the scent pleasures of my baths but in the shower. Ro’s Argan was the solution. I was obsessed after the first use of this truly lush body conditioner. It smells warm and soothing and leaves my post-shower skin moisturized and silky.

Design Faves

What I Ate Pad from Knock Knock

I’ve been making a conscious effort to eat less and this pad has helped immensely. A food log of any sort is a great tool because it helps you see what you’re actually shoving down your throat ever day. Then you can make the necessary adjustments to your diet. I especially like that this pad has a column for logging fluids. You’ve got to hydrate people!

“Gold Glitter Hello” Free iPhone Wallpaper from Wonder Forest

My phone’s wallpaper rarely gets changed because I’ll find an image I like, that looks right on my phone, and I stick with it. My computer, on the other hand, gets a new wallpaper quite frequently. It was while searching for autumnal desktop wallpapers that I stumbled upon this beauty. The gold glitter is quite festive and I love a good, simple “hello”. There are 3 more lovely fall inspired wallpapers available on Wonder Forest.

Fashion Faves

Stretch Knit Leggings from Forever 21

I’m a leggings babe, so trust me when I tell you these are fabulous. They’re not see-through, they don’t give you a muffin top because of the high waist, and they’re $7. I normally wear cotton leggings, but they show a lot of fuzz. Since I purchased an insane number of fuzzy sweaters recently, I needed a pair of spandex leggings that don’t hold onto as much fuzz. I’m going back for more!

Fuzzy Sweaters from Forever 21 and H&M

It started simply enough with the purchase of one light pink v-neck sweater, then escalated to the addition of 5 more fuzzy sweaters to my closet. They are so soft and comfy, and so easy to throw on over leggings, so I bought another one in mint. Then a waffle knit in both blue and cream. Then one in a leopard print that I simply had to have. Then finally, a cardigan in standard black. I’m wearing one as I write this. I’m a babe obsessed!

Food Faves

Brookside Dark Chocolate Açai with Bluberry Flavors

I ate two bags of these in October! They are a great treat for snack time and perfect for fighting off that after dinner sweet tooth. They come in two other flavors (Pomegranate and Goji & Raspberry) that are just as delish. You can tell how yummy these are because in a month where candy is king, I still reach for my Brookside!

Jones Halloween Blood Orange Soda

I’m a sucker for blood oranges so when I saw these I was too stoked. The fact that they were also a Halloween special edition put me over the moon. My boo managed to drink 3 of the 4 pack before I even knew it, so the last can was highly coveted and then highly enjoyed by this babe.

Personal Faves

Literature- Dracula by Bram Stoker

Sparked by an interest in vampire lore, and by recommendation from a brilliant friend, I made Dracula my Halloween read. And I couldn’t be happier that I did. I enjoyed ever minute spent reading this book. It is written as a series of diary/ journal entires, letters, and telegraphs which really bring you into the story on a personal level. Stoker set the bar for virtually all modern vampire stories, so, if you  haven’t already, I highly suggest you give Dracula a read.

TV/Film- Gone Girl

I didn’t get around to reading Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl, so my opinion is solely based on the film. I don’t normally go for anything mystery or thriller, but I do love a good drama. Plus, I heard Ben Affleck goes full frontal so I was like, yea I’m deff going to see this one. Gone Girl absolutely had all the drama I was looking forward to. It had great characters played by even better actors, and the relationships between those characters were dynamic and honest. Not a smart choice for a date, but it did make for a lovely girls night.
