January Favorites

January sure did zip by in a flash! It feels like I just wrote up my December favorites.

Here’s a look at some goodies I was feelin’ this past month!

Beauty Faves

Moroccan Smooth Perfection Blow Out Cream from OGX

What I like most about this product is that you can use it on your damp hair before you blow out your locks, or you can add it in to dry hair for frizz relief. This cream smells really nice and floral, and it doesn’t leave you hair looking greasy. Plus, it’s also a heat protectant, so there’s no need for multiple styling products.

Nail Enamel in the color Seductive from Revlon

That photo really doesn’t do this color justice. It’s a deep, rich purple that looks fairly close to black. I wore it twice in January because it’s such an easy, wearable color (if you like to wear dark nail polish). It also pairs really nicely with a lighter purple glitter polish over top. For New Year’s Eve, I wore it with this glitter polish from Wet n Wild and it was very festive.

Fashion Faves

Women’s Color-Block Sneakers from Old Navy

I’ve been shopping around from some minimal style sneakers for casual wear, but I hadn’t been able to find anything I loved at a price I also loved. My babe, Bekah, needed some new work slacks, so we headed into Old Navy. I spotted some clearance shoes and found these gorgeous burgundy sneakers. They were such a great deal, (reduced to $6 a pair!!), so I bought a pair in both the red and black.

Classic Tasseled Solid Scarf from Forever 21

The name says it all. This scarf is a perfect, classic option. It’s a good size and very soft. This scarf really makes a great addition to any wardrobe since it’s available in 5 different, neutral colors.

Food Faves

Dark Chocolate Truffles from Godiva

My boo ate all the milk chocolate truffles in about a week when I bought them last, so I opted for the dark chocolate ones this time round in an attempt to deter him from scarfing them all down. It didn’t work. These truffles are luscious chocolate wonders, and they make a sneaky late night treat.

WafflePro Express Waffle Maker M840B from Chef’s Choice

I had been wanting a waffle iron for a bit, and my boo’s parents picked up on that fact and gifted me this waffle iron for Christmas. I’ve already made blueberry waffles, banana nut waffles, and lemon poppy seed waffles. I can’t get enough!

Home Faves

Assorted House Plants from Lowe’s

I needed to bring some greenery into the apartment to liven up my winter spirits. I potted the green babes in various recyclables and one actual planter. They really bring the space to life and help bring some color to the white winter surroundings.

Personal Faves

Diet Doodle Diary from Amazon

Trying to stay on track with eating healthy and staying active is made much more fun with this diary. The book has charts for weekly food and exercise logging as well as fun activities for reflection and motivation. The adorable illustrations add a casual and comfortable element to the diary that feels very personal. If you’re looking for a non-human “buddy” in your health/fitness journey, I suggest you pick up a copy of the Diet Doodle Diary.

September Favorites

I can’t believe September has come & gone. Here are some things I’ve been loving this past month.

Beauty Faves

Fresh Face Masks from LUSH

I’ve been going low-makeup this summer, and these masks have helped make that possible. I find my skin looks so much healthier & vibrant when I regularly use these masks. My two faves this month: BB Seaweed & Cupcake.

Complete Salon Manicure in the nail color 315 Camelflage from Sally Hansen

I wore this polish pretty much all month. In fact, the only time I wasn’t wearing this perfect nude shade was when I didn’t have any polish on at all. It’s such a lovely nude for olive toned skin.

Design Faves

Hyperlapse from Instagram

Hyperlapse is an app developed by Instagram that lets you record video and then speeds up the footage by 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, or 12 times to create a stunning time-lapse video. I can’t even tell you how many Hyperlapse videos I have of my cat.

Diplo Radio on Pandora

I like to listen to music when I work on design projects. The upbeat tempo of this station is so motivating.

Fashion Faves

Skort from H&M

Because I spent a good deal of September under the warm California sun, I needed a cooler bottom option. I found myself reaching for this skort constantly. It’s a great piece to dress up or down and the fact that it’s really shorts makes it a comfy pick.

Tapered Leggings from Forever 21

These leggings are my favorite bottom in my wardrobe. The pair I own are from H&M. Unfortunately, they are currently unavailable on their site, so I linked a pair from Forever 21 that look just as swell.

Food Faves

Blueberries

This may seem like an odd favorite, but I never really liked fresh blueberries until this month. It’s an exciting taste change that I’m fully embracing!

Everything I ate while in California

One of the things I miss most about California is the food. In-N-Out, authentic Italian & Argentinian food, and poolside ice cream are a few treats I indulged in on my visit. I’ll write a food post with all the mouth-watering photos.

Personal Faves

Literature- Hawaii by James Michener

Next on my reading list, Michener’s Hawaii paints a captivating portrait of the creation and colonization of the 50th state. It’s a hefty read, so I’m still at the beginning, but it’s a great read so far.

TV/Film- Season 8 of Trailer Park Boys on Netflix

My boo got me into this series when I first moved to Anchorage and I am so grateful. Trailer Park Boys is a hysterical mockumentary about the residents of a Canadian trailer park. The shit these boys get into never ends and it is so fabulous. The 8th season is viewable exclusively on Netflix and I highly suggest you give it a chance.

20 Whites to Wear After Labor Day

Never wear black with navy. Your shoes & bag must match. Don’t mix prints/patterns. You can’t wear gold and silver together. Don’t wear horizontal stripes because they’ll make you look fat. Sequins & rhinestones are only for evening wear. Never wear red with pink. And of course, you can’t wear white after Labor Day.Rules

Yes, Walter, you are the only one around here who gives a shit about the rules. These are outdated rules that at some time, I suppose, helped guide women to dress “appropriately”. I think the above fashion rules are rather silly, so I’d like to share with you my own fashion rules.

Rules to Dressing Like a Babe:
01. If you like it, wear it.

It’s as simple as that people. In fact, you can apply this rule to any aspect of your life. Do you like that corn dog? Ya. Eat it! If it makes you happy, go for it. It’s your life, live it how you please. [insert any other YOLO-esque cliché here].

But seriously, if you love that fuchsia maxi skirt and that red cropped halter, wear them together! If you’re feeling good about what you’re wearing, you’ll also look good. Your confidence will radiate out of your precious little face, and everyone will know what a babe you are.

So in the spirit of not giving a shit about the rules, I give you 20 whites to wear after Labor Day.

01. Tank Top | 02. Bag | 03. Beanie | 04. Watch | 05. Socks | 06. Necklace | 07. Open-Toe Bootie | 08. Knit Sweater | 09. Skinny Jeans | 10. Dress | 11. Wedge Sneaker | 12. Clutch | 13. Sunglasses | 14. Bikini | 15. Nail Polish | 16. Jacket | 17. Oxford Shirt | 18. Cropped Tank Top | 19. Jumper| 20. Mini Skirt

Summer Polish

Babe Warning: There is only one month of summer left! Appropriately, Lana Del Rey’s Summertime Sadness is playing as I write this. So, let’s kick it into overdrive and squeeze all we can out of this season. Starting with our nails!

I am by no means saying you can’t wear these shades through the rest of the year. Personally, I get excited to wear more vibrant, colorful polish when its hot & sunny out, so I tend to lean toward these colors in the summer.

Here are my summer polish picks:

01. Essie Clambake | 02. L’Oreal Royally Reinvented 107 | 03. Revlon Make Mine Mango 920 | 04. Old Navy Merry Perry similar here | 05. L’Oréal New Money 108

What’s your favorite summer polish?
